Do You Base Your Rent on Credit Strength?
Pricing based on credit has been a staple in the financial industry for years. However, it has been slow to enter into the rental world largely due to fears of claims of discrimination under the federal fair housing laws. But, financial health and credit strength are not protected classes under any federal or state laws. That's a good thing too because if they were we would not be allowed to refuse to rent to people with poor credit, evictions on their records or a history of slow paying their landlords.
